#TOMB2 Month 4: This is the End

Month 3 Catchup
Before I get into all the fun month 4 stuff, since I hadn't finished month 3 in time I thought I would include some photos of my month 3 model Nekima here now that she is completed. Nekima ended up being a very long process but I am quite happy with the results. Went for Grey skin like Lilitu and gave her Red Clothes and Blue wings (keeping with the Grey, blue, red colours used on Lilitu/Lelu, my only other painted Nephilim) Also tried putting a gloss coat on the sword to see if I liked the shine (it's fairly subtle but I think it adds a little bit. This was my first attempt at proper blonde hair and it ended up being a bit more yellow than I'd planned. Since it isn't on a human though it's not a big deal. Nekima has been a blast to play even though I haven't come anywhere near to getting her rolling at peak effectiveness yet. It is great to get her up to min damage 6 from the Nurse and watch her attack 4 times in a turn (3 in her activation, once from obey). Will definitely be trying to get some more playing time as the competitive community seems split on how great she is.

#TOMB2 Month Three: Nekima Rises (or not)

Month Three Hobby
Well here we are at the end of another month. This month was both more and far less successful than the previous months. I got 2 games in this month with Zoraida (more than the first two months combined). However, due to the realities of real life getting in the way (as I am currently in the process of moving to a new place so haven't had much time to set up my stuff and paint) I have not finished Nekima for the end of Month 3 :(. I'm probably about 50% done her at best and doubt I will have much more time this month to paint until I've finished the process of moving into a new place. So rather than focus on the painting failures, below I have included summaries of the two games I played with Zoraida this month.

#TOMB2 Month 2: Painted Models

Alright it looks like I (barely) finished in time again. Here are the two models I have done...

Nowhere near as much to say as about the last models as there are only 2 models to paint and neither of them required as much inspiration as painting the silurids or Zoraida did. The nurse I decided to go with white and pink and bright blue heels as a highlight colour so she would pop a bit more (although they ended up getting a bit hidden by the basing). This is the first time I have painted quite a lot of white in a while and also one of the few human models I have painted so I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. I'm pretty happy with the end result. I tried to do proper stocking, ie. partially see-through, by painting her legs in skin tones and then doing a really watered down layer of white. It looks great from a distance but doesn't stand up as well to close inspection so I may need to work on that technique a bit more, but overall pretty glad how it turned out. Ended up giving the Nurse Brooke Shields eyebrows rather than smaller ones as I used too large a brush, but kind of like the character it gives her so decided not to repaint them.

#TOMB2 Month 1 Part Two: Zoraida, Gameplay and Month Two

Where we last left off was with me having completed painting all of my models for month 1 other than the master herself Zoraida. I had also not yet played any games with the crew (due in part to tournament burnout and a game getting cancelled two weeks in a row). Sadly I still haven't gotten a game in, but I have finished painting Zoraida after a very busy Sunday spent painting her. I am very happy with how she turned out, although she took a ton of time to paint.

I decided that Zoraida would have a pretty red and yellow polka dot dress from her early days in Malifaux when she was still human. However, it would be worn and muddy from years of wear and tear, thus I painted a very bright and pretty red dress and added yellow polka dots before hitting it with two washes of agrax earthshade to dull it down and make it look dirty and worn. I did the same thing with her shirt which I painted white before hitting it with a wash of earthshade and 2nd wash of sephia. I really struggled with her skin at first since I have basically never painted human models before (playing Neverborn in Malifaux, Tyranids in 40k, Lizardmen in fantasy allowed me to avoid it for a long time). On my 2nd attempt I finally ended up with a result I liked. The other big theme with Zoraida I decided to go for occurred to me when I noticed that her box game with 7 voodoo dolls to go on her. This of course equals the 7 factions of Malifaux, so I decided to paint each Voodoo doll as a faction. I chose to have the two voodoo dolls with the most freedom (the confused standing one and the one climbing on her back) as the two factions that I like most, Neverborn and Ten Thunders. I also gave the Neverborn voodoo doll a button eye, much like one of my stitched and the baby kade puppet wars model. Also note that the Guild doll is drowning in the water. The water effects need a couple more layers and a blue wash to be complete but that will take a couple days since the effects take so long to dry. Still working on the water effects for the rest of the crew as well. The effects should be done in time for my month 2 post.

#TOMB2 Month 1: Painting the Crew

Whew, what a month. I knew the first month would be brutal from a painting perspective and I was right. On the bright side #TOMB2 has definitely succeeded at forcing me to get more of my stuff painted. This post will focus on the hobby side of my Zoraida crew as I have not managed to get a game in with her so far. By the time this post is up I am only part-finished my Zoraida model so she will be a part of the next post where I will also cover my plans for Month 2.

Hobby
Let's start of with a shot of the built and unpainted crew. I'd already started my waldgeists by the time I took this picture and they weren't part of the starter box so I ended up leaving them out of it. Oh well. Also, I apologize in advance for the poor quality of these photos. I have neither a proper camera nor decent lighting in my room. I have also just purchased some Vallejo still water effects but haven't had an opportunity to use it yet, so you will see that some of the bases have blue/green paint representing water at the moment. Eventually this will be done with proper water effects, but as I've only just got the bottle and I know it takes multiple coats, it will likely not be until Month 2 that the water effects will be finished.

Tale of Malifaux Bloggers: Ground Zero

Despite my better judgement I have decided to add yet another series of articles to my contribution to this blog alongside tournament reviews, Dreamer tactica (sorry it's taking so long!!), my Masters after 5 series (which is probably going to start later in the year as I still have only played 3 or fewer games with my non-Dreamer Masters) and other random musings. Apparently I am insane. But I really liked falling TOMB last year and have an unbuilt/unpainted Zoraida box calling my name on my desk so I thought this was the perfect time to get involved. I bought the box to expand my general Neverborn collection as I needed Silurids and really liked the look and rules of Bad Juju.
